Reusable cycle

Reusable containers are filled by food manufacturers and sold in supermarkets. Consumers buy the product, return the packaging to the normal deposit machine, and receive their deposit back. circolution takes care of inspection, cleaning & transport – and provides data needed to make the system most efficient

How it Impacts

Circolution uses reusable packaging wherever it makes sense – but only then. We have compared the ecological impact of our reusable packaging with the impact of relevant comparative packaging, e.g. made of glass and plastic.

One- way vs.
reusable packaging

A one-way packaging system offers no savings potential and supports only a single product lifecycle, while a reusable system can save approximately 36 kg of glass and be used for up to 80 lifecycles.

Commitments

If the stainless steel cup is filled, sold and washed about around 5 times, the ecological impact is the same as that of the  comparable, disposable glass packaging. However, the stainless steel cup can go through the cycle reusable cycle another 75 times, eliminating the need for 75 disposable glass packages. In this way, Anita can save approximately 36 kg of glass over 80 lifecycles..

This data is based on full lifecycle assessments carried out in- the house by circolution. It clearly show that our reusable solution can outperform relevant single-use comparators, both glass and plastic. An independently verified lifecycle assessment will be available in the course of 2023.

Regional infrastructure from the start

The eco-radius

From public data on the water and beer multi-use system, we know that within a certain radius, reusable packaging is ecologically advantageous over single-use packaging. That’s why we first build our infrastructure regionally.

How Anita works

What do consumers have to do?

01. Buy coffee or cocoa in multi-use packaging

Purchase coffee or cocoa in participating markets.

Simply pay the surcharge at the checkout.

The aluminum foil can be put in the yellow bag.

As an end consumer, you can return your cup to the reverse vending machine in participating supermarkets.

Afterwards you will get your deposit back at the cash desk

Just like with water & beer. Simply buy the product in the reusable packaging & pay the deposit. Return the empty container together with the lid to the normal deposit machine and receive the deposit of 2.50 euros

In order for us to be able to process your request better, we kindly ask you to answer a few questions:

We have created a solution that makes a massive contribution to waste reduction.

Circolution has been working on the reusable solution since autumn 2019. Since then, we have had hundreds of conversations with experts as well as consumers and tested dozens of prototypes. “We founders met at Futury, the Frankfurt incubation programme and have built a partner coalition of circolution leaders.” Max Bannasch, CEO of circolution GmbH.

No company can build a reusable system alone. Our customers and partner companies ensure that processes in filling, logistics and return as well as cleaning and inspection are safe and automated.
